Florida Select 2021 Team

Coach John McClain

            Coach John grew up in East Islip on Long Island. He picked up lacrosse his Junior year of High School and by his Senior year was All County. Coach John attended the US Merchant Marine Academy where he was a four sport athlete playing Varsity Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, and Lacrosse. Coach John is in the Merchant Marine Athletic Hall of Fame and still remains one of the top 5 All-Time leading scorers in the Academy’s History with 141 goals. He ranked as one of the top midfield scorers in the country during his Junior and Senior years. Coach John was the first Academy graduate chosen to play in the prestigious North/South All-Star Game and was coached by Hall of Fame legend Bill Tierney.                                           

             In 2003, Coach John coached as a Boy's Assistant Coach at St. Andrews where they won 3 Florida FHSAA State Championships. Coach John has coached many All-Americans and great players that went on to schools like UNC, Denver, Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth, Michigan, Stevens Tech, Virginia, Navy, West Point, and Bucknell. Coach John saw the need in girl's lacrosse and stepped up to coach his daughter’s rec league team... and the rest is history. He immersed himself in the girl’s game. Over the last 10 years, he has coached 1000+ Girl’s Lacrosse Games for Travel/Rec/High School.

                        Head Coach – American Heritage Delray – 2015-present – Started Program

             Coach John brings an unparalleled knowledge and passion to the Florida Select program. The list of college commits who Coach John has coached or helped find the right fit for is growing exponentially.  A true student of the game, Coach John helps every player understand the skills, how to practice those skills and what to do to become an elite player--then he believes and empowers the players to put in the extra hard work.  He has established an incredible  club and team culture of hard work along with great coaching which in turn develops top players.  Florida Select teams are nationally ranked.  Coach John is a true blessing to every player in the program!
